Although it’s just a rumor for now, Nokia working on a Windows Mobile phone would not be such a big surprise. After teaming up with Microsoft to offer mobile office software on a wide range of its handsets, the Finnish company might have decided to enforce the alliance by planning to release a Windows-based smartphone.
Though there are doubts that we will see a Nokia Windows-based smartphone this year, especially now that Microsoft gave up on improving its mobile operating system and is currently concentrating on the new Windows Mobile 7. What I’d really like to see is a Nokia smartphone running the new Windows 7 platform. As a matter fact, I think that, if we were to see a Nokia device running Microsoft’s mobile OS, that would most likely be Windows Mobile 7 and not an older 6.1 or 6.5 versions.
Besides Nokia already sells its 3G booklet, which runs the Windows 7 operating system, the presentation slide could refer to this device or to some future tablets that it might intend to launch. Either way, we will probably find out what’s the truth behind the Nokia- Microsoft alliance until the end of the year. For now company’s politics do not allow any comments over rumors over the Internet, even though the slide page is real and it was presented by one of the Nokia officials.
