New Netbook DVD Burner from Samsung

Netbook DVD Burner from SamsungThis year samsung has been releasing more products than can be counted and it seems that the company isn’t even nearly ready to stop. The hardware and electronics maker has already launched transparent laptops, an e-reader and an NVIDIA 3D Vision-ready LCD, among other things. Among the latest of the products introduced is the SE-S084D optical disk drive (ODD), a slim DVD burner aimed for use in netbooks.

According to John Suh, director of OMS sales and marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. because netbooks are designed for ultra mobility, they aren’t typically equipped with optical disc drives, which can potentially make booting from a CD or playing a DVD movie a problem. But with the lightweight, portable SE-S084D Optical Disc Drive, you have the perfect on-the-go, stand-alone. And thanks to its USB BUS power source, you can write at maximum speed with no outlet in sight.

The DVD writer is compatible with all major operating systems, including Windows 7 and Mac OS. The various speeds across the different data/media types that the unit achieves are 24X for CD-ROM and CD-WR, 8X for DVD±R recording, DVD+WR and DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-RW and 5X for DVD-RAM recording. Not only that but the drive also features the Buffer Under Run technology, which prevents errors when writing at speeds greater than the data-transfer speeds. This feature also enables PC multi-tasking.
