Most men are achievement-oriented. Motivation can be increased greatly if you set specific goals. If you know you’ve got a big adventure race a month from now and it will win you big bucks, you’ll make sure to put on extra effort to train. So, if you want to do away with extra pounds to fit back in your good looking tuxedo, don’t just have one big target. Think of short-term, mid-term and long-term. Short term might simply be completing 15 minutes of straight running in the treadmill this week, no matter what the pace. Mid-term might be losing 15 pounds in three months time and long-term might be reaching and maintaining your target weight in a year or so. With this in mind, tell yourself and others that you’re going training rather than just go to the gym or for a run.
