Network Diagnostics!

This is a simple diagnose if you have a problema with your dial-up modem or LAN network. Just follow the steps carefully.

To run the Microsoft® Windows® XP Network Diagnostics, perform the following steps:

1.Click the Start button, and then click Run.
The Run window appears.

2.Type netsh diag gui, and then click OK.
The Help and Support Center window appears.

In the right-hand column, click Scan your system. The Network Diagnostics perform a series of tests. Locate Network Adapters under Modem and Network Adapters and click the plus (+) to the left of your network adapter. You have to note whether DefaultIPGateway lists PASSED.

NOTE: The Network Diagnostics uses a test known as Ping to test your Internet connection. Some servers are configured to ignore this request and consequentially, this test will fail in some cases. This tets will help you Identify weather you are facing a hardware problem (Modem) or (network Card) and if all the test passed then we can isolate the case as a virus issue. Hope this will help you in any ways.
